Plant Medicines

Plants from the Amazon rainforest are powerful allies in the healing process. When used with care and respect, they can support meaningful change on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Working with these plants often requires a willingness to step outside familiar habits and allow space for deeper insight and personal reflection. Their effects can be strong, and it’s important to approach them with intention, patience, and guidance.

For generations, the people of the Amazon have turned to plants as a primary path for healing and self-understanding. This tradition is rooted in a worldview that sees the body, spirit, and nature as deeply interconnected—something that may feel unfamiliar to those shaped by Western ideas of health and identity.

Through personal experience and time spent with the plants, a different way of seeing often begins to emerge. Healing becomes less about fixing symptoms and more about realignment—rediscovering clarity, purpose, and a more rooted connection to the natural world.

This is the journey we invite you to consider. What if nature isn’t random or indifferent, but intelligent and responsive? What if its role is not to test you, but to support your growth, strength, and balance—day by day, season by season?

Master Plants

We work with a wide variety of plants, each with unique properties and purposes. Some, known as amorosas, are gentle and heart-opening, helping to soften the mind’s control. Others, called master plants, are more direct, powerful teachers that require discipline and a readiness to face hard truths.

There is no universal path. Every person is their own world—and some plants will speak more clearly to you than others.

We offer Master Plant Dietas based on your personal diagnosis with Slocum and our Shaman. Because each person has unique needs and sensitivities, a dieta is only confirmed once you’re here with us. While we work with over 100 different plants, some of the most commonly used include:

Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca is a sacred plant medicine traditionally brewed from two main ingredients: the  Banisteriopsis caapi and the Psychotria viridis. When prepared together, they create a powerful, visionary brew that has been used for centuries by Indigenous peoples of the Amazon for healing, spiritual insight, and connection to the natural and unseen worlds. This medicine is not simply a psychedelic experience—it is a teacher. Ayahuasca can guide you into deep realms of self-inquiry, revealing the roots of emotional pain, physical illness, or energetic blockages. Many describe it as a conversation with the soul, a profound return to truth, and a reconnection with nature as a conscious, intelligent force.

At Amaru, we prepare our Ayahuasca with care and intention. Some of the varieties we offer are grown directly on-site, tended with respect and gratitude for the medicine they provide. Ceremonies are held three times a week in a safe and supported environment. Depending on your needs, we may work with Ayahuasca Negra (deep and purgative, used for intense cleansing), Ayahuasca Amarilla (balanced, clear, and heart-opening), or Ayahuasca Blanca (gentle and subtle, ideal for sensitive systems).

Huachuma

Huachuma, also known as San Pedro, is a sacred cactus native to the Andes, containing mescaline, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound. When prepared and cooked traditionally, Huachuma becomes a powerful plant medicine that facilitates a long, heart-centered journey of awareness, healing, and connection.

We typically hold daytime Huachuma ceremonies, giving participants the opportunity to engage with nature—through guided walks, quiet reflection, and sometimes a traditional despacho (offering) ceremony by the fire. The medicine's expansive energy harmonizes well with the daylight, often bringing a sense of joy, clarity, and interconnectedness.

Ceremonies are offered roughly every 8 to 10 days, depending on the needs of the group and the guidance of our facilitators.

Unlike fast-acting psychedelics, Huachuma unfolds gently over many hours, allowing for deep introspection and clarity without overwhelming the system. Often referred to as a Grandfather Spirit, it is revered for its grounding and wise energy—guiding individuals to release emotional burdens, process trauma, and reconnect with the natural world in a profound and embodied way.

Kambo Application

Kambo is a powerful traditional medicine used by various Indigenous tribes of the Amazon for purification, detoxification, and energetic clearing. It is derived from the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor—a tree frog found only in the Amazon rainforest. The secretion is carefully collected in a way that does not harm the frog, and is then applied through small superficial burns (known as "gates") made on the surface of the skin using a smoldering stick.

Once applied, Kambo enters the lymphatic system and rapidly triggers a strong purgative response—both physical and energetic. The effects may include vomiting, sweating, and emotional release, as the body undergoes a deep detox. Kambo is particularly known for its ability to cleanse the liver, reset the immune system, and help clear stored trauma and dense emotional patterns. This medicine is intense and not appropriate for everyone. We offer Kambo only on a case-by-case basis, after a thorough assessment to ensure it is safe and beneficial for the individual
